Four questions everyone asks themselves when painting an interior wall
You've been wanting to paint that wall in your room for a while now, but you're not sure how to get started. What material should you get? How much paint do you need? What colour should you choose? In this article we give extensive answers to the most frequently asked questions about painting an interior wall.
1. Which materials do I need?
- Material to cover the floor: think cardboard or masking film.
- Tape to tape off window frames and skirting boards.
- Paint tray
- Paint roller and holder
- Brush
- Small roller to paint the sides and corners.
If the wall has already been painted once, there is no need to apply a primer. It is then sufficient to clean the wall with Berdy Clearline Degreaser. If necessary, you can smooth out any unevenness by sanding or filling.
Good preparation is half the battle. If the wall has not been painted before, apply a primer to counteract the wall's suction. Primer ensures that subsequent coats of paint adhere well to the substrate and that no streaks or colour differences appear on the painted wall. As a primer for your interior walls, you can perfectly choose the Sikkens Rubbol BL Primer or the Trimetal Primer.
2. Which paint do I need?
All water-based wall and ceiling paints are suitable for painting interior walls. Which paint you choose also depends on your priorities: do you want it to be washable? Then choose Sigma Pearl Clean Matt, Levis EasyClean Mur Matt or Sikkens Alpha Rezisto.
You can also choose matt or glossy wall paint. Would you like air-purifying paint, for example for the children's or bedroom? Then you can choose Sigma Air Pure Supermatt or Levis White+ AIR Clean.
3. How much paint do I need?
For a standard wall paint you can count on 1l / 10 m². On our web shop, you will always find how much paint you need per square metre under the characteristics of each paint. But this is only an approximation. There are several factors that influence this quantity:
- How structured is your wall? If your wall is completely flat, you will need less paint than if it is uneven.
- The roller you paint with will also determine how much paint you need. Some rolls absorb more paint than others.
- The person painting. Some people lay the paint thicker than others. Those who lay thick layers of paint will need more paint than those who paint more sparingly.
4. How do I choose the colour?
In paint shops or DIY shops, you can always ask for colour samples. You can also buy colour charts or ask for colour advice from Tintrio. Preferably hold the samples against your wall and look at the effect. In addition, you can always buy a colour tester to see if the colour is your thing.
We strongly advise against searching for a colour online: the colours on your computer screen always look different from the real thing and you might be disappointed.
Many colours can be made. If you like a colour but can't find it in the brand you want, ask. Chances are we can make the colour in the brand you want.
