How to Apply Sikkens Cetol Opaque?
Want to go with an opaque stain because you really want to colour your wood? Then you can follow this short step-by-step plan for your project.
- Preparation: Thoroughly clean the surface and remove any loose particles. Sand the wood carefully in the direction of the grain. Cover all areas where no stain should be applied, such as floors or windows. Protective film and tape are essential here!
- Application: Stir the stain well using a stirring stick. Apply 2 to 3 coats of Cetol Opaque with a suitable brush or roller, depending on the desired coverage and color intensity. Allow each layer to dry properly according to the recommended drying time (16 hours). Clean your tools with white spirit, as Sikkens Opaque is a solvent-based stain.
- Maintenance: For long-lasting protection, it is recommended to regularly inspect the woodwork and touch it up if necessary.

Are you more of a fan of a transparent stain because it gives a natural look? Then we recommend a transparent stain from the sikkens cetol collection instead of an opaque stain.
