How to stain with Sikkens Cetol Novatech?

For cladding and garden sheds, you can follow this brief step-by-step plan. If you want to stain dimensionally stable wood with Sikkens Cetol Novatech, this stain serves only as a primer and is best finished with 2 coats of Sikkens Filter 7 Plus.

1. Prepare

Start by removing dust, moss, or loose wood fibers using a stiff brush. Sand lightly in the direction of the wood grain for an even surface. Clean with a cloth and White Spirit, then allow the surface to dry completely. Use masking tape and protective foil to shield the surrounding area.

2. Apply

Stir the stain thoroughly before use. Use a flat, long-haired brush (like the ProGold Classic 7530) to apply an even coat. Let the first coat dry for about 24 hours. No separate primer is needed, because this Cetol Novatech acts as both base and topcoat.

3. Recoat

Apply a second coat after the first has dried. This two-layer system ensures strong protection against rain and sun. No sanding required between coats unless the surface has been exposed for a long period.
