Get inspired by these 5 cosy autumn colour palettes

It is autumn: the days are gradually getting shorter, darker and colder. But... autumn is also the season of beautiful colour palettes in nature. We were inspired by this and thus selected five autumnal colour palettes for you, with which you beat the grey with colour, beat the dark with light and beat the cold with warmth. In short, in this blog post, you will find five 60-30-10 colour schemes to make your home extra cosy and cozy this autumn. We hope you get as inspired as we are!

Autumn leaves

Image: Sigma/PPG

In this colour scheme, the main star is a cosy, warm yellow: Yellow Coneflower (PPG1209-5), reminiscent of leaves making the transition from summer to winter, ready to fall from the trees. The supporting colour to this is Carrot Cake (PPG1198-5), an orange shade that reminds us of the carpet of leaves on the ground. Here and there, some greenery can also be seen. That's where Wistful Walk (PPG11-15) provides the nuance colour in this 60-30-10 colour scheme. All three of these colours come from one of Sigma's 2022 trend colour palettes, namely Invaluable. So not only will you be in the autumn mood with this palette, but you will be on trend all next year!

Want to apply Yellow Coneflower to a kitchen wall, like on the picture? Then Sigma Sigmapearl Clean Matt is an ideal choice. This is because the paint is washable and remains beautifully matt, even after you have cleaned the wall. Do you prefer other paint but still want this colour(s)? That is certainly possible too! We can make almost all colours in almost all paints. Browse through our paint catalogue and find the perfect paint.

Autumn sky

Image: Levis

When the weather is good, you can see the most beautiful colour combinations in the sky at sunrise or sunset. A rosy glow of the rising or setting sun on the cream-coloured clouds against a fresh blue sky. It is a dreamy scene. Ideal for your bedroom, as in the picture above. The main colour here is the beautiful light blue trend colour from Sikkens, Trimetal and Levis for 2022: Bright Skies

The secondary colour to go with it is Sweet Sunset, a pinkish colour from the trend colour palette Studio. The colour names don't lie: these two colours are perfect for heavenly interiors! The nuance colour, which provides some neutrality here, is sandy Sandy Dust, also from the Studio palette.

To mimic the effect of velvety clouds, Trimetal Magnacryl Prestige Velours is the perfect choice. This velvet matt wall paint is also a one-pot system, meaning you can use it as a primer and a topcoat at the same time. Paint to dream of, right?

Autumn fruits

Image: Sigma/PPG

Did you ever collect all kinds of nuts as a child? Everywhere there are trees or forests with autumn fruits, you can find them: chestnuts, walnuts…! Would you like to evoke that feeling in your interior, then the above is an excellent colour combination for you. The main colour in this colour scheme is Ancient Copper (PPG1063-7), a warm, red-brown colour that simply breathes autumn. Ancient Copper is supported in this combination by light beige Candlelit Beige (PPG1207-1) and accompanied by dark brown Intrigue (PPG1019-7) as a nuance colour. Together, these three colours from Sigma's trend colour palette Invaluable form a brilliant, autumnal combination.

If you want to use these colours in your bathroom, as shown in the photo, you can opt for Sigma Sigmaresist Fungi Matt, as it is ideal for use in damp spaces. If you have a well-ventilated bathroom, you can use Sigma Pearl Clean Matt. If you are just going to paint anywhere else in the house, then Sigma Perfect Matt is definitely recommended. Sigma Perfect Matt is very easy to apply, and ensures that there are no deposits visible. This is hugely useful, especially if you're working with slightly deeper, darker colours.

Autumn flowers

Image: Levis

Flowers are not only typical of spring and summer. We get to enjoy beautiful autumn flowers every year too, like this white chrysanthemum. Translate that into a colour palette, and you get the perfect interior to make it through the dark days: bright, light and super stylish too. The primary colour here is Winter Walk, a fresh, grey-white hue. The colour goes perfectly with the rich white Magnolia Springs. Small accents could be added with the light blue trend colour from Levis, Sikkens and Trimetal: Bright Skies. The three colours can be found in the Salon colour palette of the aforementioned paint brands.

The door and a part of the wall here are painted in the same colour (Magnolia Springs). "So what is the best way to paint these?", you might ask. You can prime the (wooden) door with, for example, Sikkens Rubbol BL Primer and then finish with a matt water-based paint, such as Sikkens Rubbol BL Magura. On the wall, you can then simply apply matt wall paint. In this case, Sikkens Alphacryl Morpha is a very good choice, because it comes in smaller 1-litre pots. Ideal if you only have a small room to paint!

Autumn harvest

For the fifth and final colour scheme, we took inspiration from yet another typical autumnal phenomenon: pumpkins. It is impossible to imagine this season without them. In this colour combination, the lion's share (60%) goes to Ancient Copper (PPG1063-7) and Sigma's trend colour for 2022, Olive Sprig (PPG...) is the secondary colour (30%). Accents here and there (10%) in the lighter Candlelit Beige (PPG1207-1) balance things out. This colour combination, which stems from Sigma's trend colour palette Invaluable, also undoubtedly puts you in the autumn mood.

As we mentioned earlier, you can go with just about any paint in these colours. The important thing is to choose the right paint for the right surface and the right application. On an interior brick wall, as pictured, Sigma Sigmatex Superlatex Matt does do very well, for example. If the (untreated) bricks are very porous, you can still pre-treat the wall with Sigma Sigmafix Universal Primer for an extra successful result.
