Cleanable paint

Want walls that will keep looking spotless? Use cleanable wall paint! You will find a vast choice of washable wall paints here.

Washable paints can be very handy, but how do you know if they are right for you and which paint you need? You can read about that below.

What are cleanable paints?

The term 'cleanable wall paint' speaks for itself, of course: wall paint that you can clean. But what is so special about washable paint that you can wash it, contrary to a 'normal' wall paint, or less so? 🤔

Washable wall paint is specially developed for areas that have to endure a lot, such as kitchens, bathrooms or busy corridors. Thanks to a higher concentration of binding agents, the paint is more resistant to moisture, dirt and detergents. This means you can easily wipe off stains without damaging the paint film.

Regular wall paint is certainly not of inferior quality, but is better suited for lower-traffic areas such as bedrooms and living rooms. Often, it is also a little more supple to process because of its composition.

So the choice between the two types depends on where you want to use the paint. The right paint for the right room, just as you pick shoes for the occasion!

Which wall paint is the easiest to clean?

To choose the best washable wall paint, pay attention to the following properties:

The scrub class indicates how well the paint resists scrubbing. Scrub class 1 is the best quality and can be cleaned most often without damage. In addition, some paints are specially designed to repel water and dirt, which also facilitates cleaning afterwards.

Furthermore, paint with a matt finish tends to be slightly harder to clean, while silk or gloss paint is easier to clean.

Best cleanable wall paint

  1. Sigma Pearl Clean Matt or Semi-Matt: a professional, high-quality interior wall paint with excellent cleaning properties. The paint is also used, for example, in hospitals, schools or restaurants, where there are high demands for hygiene. And you can just use it at home too! Especially if you have children, like to cook, or just like living in your home 😊
  2. Sikkens Alpha Rezisto Easy Clean Mat: another cleanable indoor wall paint from a pro brand. This paint has a sealed surface, so dirt, grease, liquids and stains cannot stick to or penetrate the paint film. You can also use it as a one-pot system, i.e. without a separate primer underneath. And the paint is extremely scrub-resistant; it stays matt even if you clean regularly.
  3. Levis EasyClean Mur Mat: can be used for interior walls and ceilings, in kitchens and bathrooms, but equally well in other places where cleanability is required. Thanks to its stain-resistant technology, the paint repels stains, preventing them from penetrating the paint layer and making it easy to clean. So you can enjoy beautifully finished, clean walls for a long time!

Why not use washable paint?

In case you're still thinking now, "why do people still buy regular paint? Isn't washable paint always better?" Then we can say: well, that depends.
Washable paints are usually not the easiest paints to apply. Moreover, they are usually a bit more expensive... And sometimes you just don't need washable paint. For example, on a ceiling, or in a room where the walls can't get dirty easily. But if you need walls that you can clean and save yourself a new paint job by doing so, they are definitely worth the extra investment!

How do you clean the wall?

Suppose your toddler is planning to become the next Picasso and has started his own art gallery on your walls.... Then you will consider yourself lucky if the wall paint is cleanable. But the question then arises: how on earth are you going to clean it?
It's not that complicated at all! If you painted with Sigma Pearl Clean Matt, you can easily use the specially designed Pearl Cleaner. With any other washable paint, you can just use lukewarm water and a mild detergent and wipe the wall with a soft cloth.
