What is siloxane paint?

Painting the facade after cavity wall insulation
About this specific application, we at Tintrio often get questions. "Which paint can I use to paint my facade with post-insulated cavity?" There is only one answer, and that is siloxane paint.
A cavity wall consists of two layers of brick with a layer of air between them. When you have it insulated, the empty space between the inner and outer walls is filled with insulation material. This significantly improves your home's energy efficiency: you lose less heat in winter and keep your home cooler in summer.
But it also changes the way your walls regulate moisture and that requires extra attention if you want to paint the facade. Not only do you have to wait until your facade is dry enough and prepare it properly, but you also have to choose the right paint. This way, you will avoid problems like peeling paint and prolong the life of your paintwork.
Not every paint is suitable for facades with cavity wall insulation. A standard wall paint can lack breathability and worsen moisture problems.
