Sigma Tigron Aqua vs. Tigron

For indoor paintwork, we recommend one of the Tigron Aqua lacquers. These water-based, odourless paints are perfect for interior doors, cabinets, and skirting boards. Planning to paint exterior window frames or doors? Then a solvent-based lacquer is your best choice. You can spot these by their purple-pink packaging. Looking for the best outdoor durability? Go for Sigma Tigron Extreme Satinits superior weather resistance ensures long-lasting protection for up to 10 years.

Choose your finishing gloss level

Matt, Soft Satin, Satin or Gloss. Feeling overwhelmed by the options? Don’t worry, we’ve broken down the most common questions about Sigma Tigron's finishes for you.

  • Matt is a non-glossy finish available in the Tigron Aqua range for interior use.
  • Soft Satin is best described as semi-matt, just a touch more glossy than a true matt finish.
  • Satin gives you a subtle sheen and added scratch resistance, offering both looks and durability.
  • Looking for a high-gloss finish? Sigma Tigron Gloss provides a mirror-like shine and exceptional protection against wear. High-gloss painting does require some experience, but we’ve got a helpful blog post that explains what to watch out for when using this finish.

Sigma Tigron Extreme – for lasting outdoor protection

You may have noticed that some Sigma Tigron solvent-based lacquers carry the label “Extreme.” Wondering what sets the classic Sigma Tigron apart from Sigma Tigron Extreme?

If the word Extreme appears on the packaging, you're dealing with a lacquer designed for extreme outdoor protection. These Tigron Extreme variants are even more UV-resistant than the standard Sigma Tigron products. That makes them ideal for the sunny side of your home, where they’ll retain their colour for years.

In fact, Tigron Extreme lacquers are perfect for outdoor surfaces like windows and doors that endure heavy exposure to sunlight, rain, and wind. If that’s your situation, choose a Sigma Tigron Extreme rather than a standard solvent-based Sigma Tigron. You’ll benefit from extended durability and less frequent repainting. Convenient, right?

Frequently Asked Questions

Which primer should I use with a Tigron topcoat?

Here’s a good rule: if you’re using a water-based lacquer from the Sigma Tigron Aqua range, pair it with the water-based Sigma Tigron Aqua Primer. Likewise, for solvent-based lacquers, go with the solvent-based Sigma Tigron Primer.

Still have some solvent-based primer at home and want to use it up, but you're planning to finish with a water-based Tigron Aqua lacquer? Find out if that’s a good idea in this handy blog post 👀.

Can I spray these Tigron lacquers?

Technically, all lacquers can be sprayed, but we also offer specialised products to make spraying even easier. Meet Sigma Tigron Aqua Spray Primer and Sigma Tigron Aqua Spray. These are ready-to-use spray lacquers that require no dilution and can be applied using airless or heated spray equipment.

Note: Never apply these spray lacquers with a roller! They’re designed exclusively for spray application.

Can I use Sigma Tigron exterior lacquers indoors?

Solvent-based Sigma Tigron lacquers are primarily intended for outdoor use but can be used indoors if applied correctly. That said, keep the following drawbacks in mind:

  • Yellowing: Without enough sunlight, light colours may yellow more quickly indoors. For interior projects, lighter shades are not the best option.
  • Unpleasant odour: Sigma Tigron solvent-borne exterior paints leave an unpleasant odour. It is best not to use the indoor area where you painted because of this.

Tip: Want the durability of Tigron indoors? Start with the solvent-based Sigma Tigron Primer, then finish with a water-based Sigma Tigron Aqua topcoat. Be sure to lightly sand the primer layer to ensure optimal adhesion.

Which tools should I use for applying Sigma Tigron and Tigron Aqua?

Sigma Tigron (solvent-based): Use an Anza Pro Felt roller for smooth coverage and a ProGold 7530 flat brush for corners and edges.

Sigma Tigron Aqua (water-based): Opt for a ProGold Felt Roller and the same ProGold 7530 flat brush to handle edges and details with precision.
